Themes
The Terminal ships with seven themes to match your visual preferences. Each theme applies to all panels — terminal, editor, and UI chrome.
Available Themes
Section titled “Available Themes”| Theme | Style | Description |

| Default | Dark | The Terminal’s native dark theme |
| Dracula | Dark | Purple-accented dark theme, popular with developers |
| Nord | Dark | Arctic-inspired, muted blue palette |
| Catppuccin | Dark | Pastel-toned, easy on the eyes |
| Solarized | Both | Ethan Schoonover’s precision color scheme |
| Monokai | Dark | Warm, high-contrast syntax highlighting |
| GitHub | Light | Clean light theme matching GitHub’s aesthetic |
Switching Themes
Section titled “Switching Themes”Open Settings (Cmd+,) and navigate to Appearance. Select your theme from the dropdown.
Color Mode
Section titled “Color Mode”Independent of the theme, you can set the color mode:
- Dark — always use dark mode
- Light — always use light mode
- Auto — follow macOS system appearance
When set to Auto, The Terminal switches between light and dark variants of your chosen theme based on your macOS system preference.
Theme Scope
Section titled “Theme Scope”Themes apply globally to:
- Terminal panels — background color, text color, ANSI color palette
- Editor panels — syntax highlighting colors, background
- UI chrome — sidebars, panels, borders, buttons
- Browser panel — only the UI chrome, not the web content
The browser panel’s web content renders with its own styles — the theme doesn’t affect your web app’s appearance.
